This year the “The World’s Oldest Rodeo” (since 1888) in Prescott, AZ still took place with limited attendance at 25%.  I gladly volunteered in hospitality, of course donning gloves and a face mask when near folks.  As expected, several of the other events were cancelled including the parades, country western dances and some vendors. The Prescott Frontier Days Mission Statement – “Prescott Frontier Days, Inc. a non-profit volunteer organization, is dedicated to the continuation and enhancement of the World’s Oldest Rodeo and western traditions, while enriching its community, both culturally and financially.” Much of the proceeds are donated to local charities.  We can look forward to 2021 with anticipation and hope that all the events will take place.

Well, Geezerfest 2020 came and went in a blink of an eye. Months of preparation to showcase the best you have to offer in 30 minutes seems ridiculous, but it is worth the thrill and energy experienced playing with Utah's most seasoned rock musicians. The COVID pandemic did little to squash the spirits of all those who attended this year. Social distancing, masks, and safety precautions were practiced by the audience as well as musicians who were not performing during their time slot. We were fortunate to kick off the event as the opening band and spent 1-1/2 solid days of fun and excitement supporting our peers and the event. Our charitable contributions were directed to "Tabitha's Way" this year,...

Geezerfest / “Autism Speaks”  August 2019 Geezerfest...sounds like a rock concert for old people. Well, if you thought that, you would be right! Geezerfest was founded about 10 years ago by some dear friends that I knew back in the 70's. I was a part of the band scene at that time while attending college. Some former band members put together a concert series that mostly featured legacy bands and current bands that still need a place to show off their chops. The City of Orem now provides a huge venue with band stand, sound reinforcement, and roadies to support the performances of about 25 different bands. Each year it gets bigger and bigger.  One of my old band mates...

Lisa and Tricia both helped with the Cancer Support Community annual fundraiser with set up, live auction, silent auction, raffle ticket sales and cleanup. Cancer Support Community offers free programs for cancer patients, their families and loved-ones. Our goal is to help as many cancer patients as possible recover from the physical and emotional effects of cancer. Our psychological support and educational programs are designed to address the loss of control, hopelessness and social isolation that cancer patients and their families often experience. In November 2019, I participated in the Fredericksburg Mass Casualty Exercise. It was an intense and emotional experience that went well with all the various groups included. We had to sign a waiver that we wouldn't take/post any pictures. They didn't want any confusion that a real incident had occurred. I have for you the 2 minute video link that summarizes the event. I'm in the green sweatshirt. We arrived early and were assigned our roles and had theater makeup applied. I was an active victim that had lacerations on my face and knee. My mom and one of my friends that participated were unconscious victims. We were all instructed to really act out our roles and I believe everyone...

I am a member of the IT Team. I was asked to purchase and install a new desktop computer to be installed at the desk at the front door, where all the action is. I analyzed the requirements, purchased hardware and software. I used the Volunteerism hours to do the physical installation of the PC. It is always nice when a Church is able to upgrade a ten-year-old PC.

I am an active volunteer at the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (PRAS), which is a local shelter that services four counties in the Hampton Roads, VA area. Today I volunteered with dog walking/enrichment activities and snapped some pictures of the dogs for the adoption website. Capturing a dog’s personality through pictures greatly increases his chances of “catching the eye of a potential adopter” and ultimately, in him being adopted. I also regularly assist with teaching the dog-handler course (requirement for all new volunteers before they are allowed to walk dogs) and fostering animals. My dog trainer experience allows me to have the biggest impact by fostering dogs with behavior challenges and working on behavior modification until they are suitable to...
